Paint Protection Film: what it is, what it will not do, and every price
01 / Round Rock, TX
15 min via SH-45 · 12 services · from $149
Round Rock is not Austin with a different postcode. The cars are newer, they are parked outside far more often, they cover more highway miles a week, and that combination changes which service is actually the right one.
02 / Why film first
60 mi a day · 3 reasons
Round Rock is a commuter town. The drive is I-35 or the SH-45 and Toll 130 corridor, at highway speed, twice a day, and much of it past active construction. That is a rock-chip problem, not a gloss problem. A ceramic coating on a car doing sixty miles a day on I-35 is protecting against the wrong thing very well.
Second difference: garage rates. Round Rock houses have garages and Round Rock garages have things in them. A large share of the cars we see here live on the driveway, which means full sun from June to September and every hailstorm in spring, where a downtown Austin car is in a parking structure.
Third: the cars are newer. Dell's campus is here, the north corridor has been building for a decade, and a lot of what comes in is under three years old with original paint in good condition.
That is the best possible case for film and coating and the worst possible case for correction — there is often nothing to correct, and we will tell you so rather than sell you a two-step.

SH-45 to Burnet is faster than I-35 at almost every hour, and it is the route we would take.

2 things we will not do
If the paint reads clean under the light, a one-step and a coating is the honest answer and about half the money.
If your car does I-35 twice a day and you can only do one, do the film. A coating will not stop a chip and we are not going to imply that it will.
06 / The Round Rock job
2 rock chips · 3 days
It is the right car for this page: soft paint, a commuter, full-front film plus coating rather than heavy correction — which is exactly the recommendation this page argues for.
We photograph the work, not the car. Customer vehicles and plates stay off this site. The frames show the operation; the record beside them carries the vehicle, the paint and the reading.
Pearl White
Soft factory paint, wash marring across every horizontal panel, two rock chips on the hood. Two-step correction, full-front PPF, 3-year coating.
Duration3 days
Frames are labelled During or Finished for what they actually show. A comparison slider needs the same frame twice, shot under the same lighting — until those pairs exist this is a gallery, not a before and after, and it says so.

Fifteen minutes each way on SH-45, once, for a car we keep for a full day or longer. We would not ask you to do it weekly. For coating or film it is one trip.
Probably not, and we will read the paint and tell you before you commit to anything. Newer cars in this corridor usually need protection rather than repair. What they do have is rock chips on the front bumper from the commute, and correction does not fix a chip.
No — that is paintless dent repair and it is a different trade. We will refinish and protect the paint afterwards, and we will happily tell you who does the dent work. Claiming both is how shops end up doing neither well.
