A ceramic coating is two to three microns. Film is two hundred. That single ratio is the whole difference between a chemical seal and physical protection, and it is why film is the only thing on this site that actually stops a rock chip.

It will not stop everything.
A stone at highway speed can still mark film. It will stop the chip reaching your paint, which is the point.
It cannot go over defects.
Film is clear. Every swirl mark under it stays visible and is now under two hundred microns of urethane. Correction comes first, always.
It is not invisible on every car.
Edges exist. On some panel shapes they can be seen from certain angles, and we will show you where before we cut.

200 µm · XPEL Ultimate Plus
A urethane sheet, cut to the panel and laid over the paint, that absorbs an impact your clear coat cannot. Modern film is self-healing — light marring in the film's top layer closes with heat — and XPEL Ultimate Plus carries a ten-year warranty against yellowing, cracking and delamination.
We wrap the edges where the panel allows it. A wrapped edge means the film does not stop in the middle of a visible surface, which is the difference between a job you can see and one you cannot.

01 Inspection
The car goes under inspection lighting, every panel gets read, and you get told what is coming off and what is staying.

02 Decontamination
Two-bucket contact wash, chemical and mechanical decon, tar and iron off before anything touches the paint.

03 Protection
Coating or film goes on last. The coating locks in whatever is underneath it, which is why it goes on after the correction and never instead of it.

04 Handover
We give you the list and the products at handover, and the first maintenance wash is included.

Will a ceramic coating stop rock chips?
No. Coating is roughly 2-3 microns thick and stops chemical etching, UV and staining. Rock chips need paint protection film, which is 200 microns of urethane. Anyone telling you a coating stops chips is selling you the wrong product.
